"Sounds like it has something to do with ownership and sponsorship combined, somehow.
I know in football owning a team is called owning a franchise. But don't know what it would be in Nascar.

"Franchising is when the league sets a limit on how many teams can be a part of the league and then to be an owner you pay the league for a franchise or a spot in the league.
This would mean that not just anyone with a few million dollars could build and field a car. To field a car you would have to buy a franchise."
